Color captivates me and is the driving force in my paintings. My paintings center on how color, shape and line interact with each other, and how color can conjure light and establish space. I am an abstract painter inspired by my environment. I photograph details that may inform my work. They act as a beginning point for the paintings.
There is an honesty in confronting the canvas and applying pigment. I focus on quieting myself to begin painting from an intuitive place. In pursuit of a visual rhythm, I lose myself in color—layering color upon color forming harmonies and discord to attain momentary truths. Through layering, scraping and rebuilding the surface, a history emerges.
Working on several paintings at a time provides the time needed to let the paintings breathe and settle. One painting leads to the next, establishing a continuum of work that speak to one another. Painting sparks vague recollections as I discover the familiar yet indiscernible. Through my work, via the relationship of color, I want to invite an intimate dialogue and a contemplation.
